Utility, storage, and hidden access

A working bookcase—not a decorative cover.

The Standard Single Hidden Bookcase Door is built to carry real books and décor while operating as a full doorway. Adjustable shelving and available cabinet doors turn otherwise unused doorway space into practical storage.

This design prioritizes familiar bookcase function and broad configuration flexibility. It can conceal an opening, but it does not use the same concealment-focused architecture as the Alpha Door.

  • Load-bearing real-wood bookcase construction
  • Adjustable shelving for books and display items
  • Floor-supported concealed hinge system
  • In-swing and out-swing configurations
  • Left- and right-hand swing directions
  • Out-swing units include the TopSeal concealment feature

Standard versus Alpha

Choose function first or concealment first.

Both are real hidden-door systems, but they solve different project priorities.

Standard Bookcase Door

Storage and configuration flexibility

The familiar bookcase format is well suited to projects that want useful shelving, broad customization, and hidden access without requiring the most concealment-focused design.

  • Traditional bookcase appearance
  • Wide range of depths, trims, backs, and cabinet-door options
  • Good fit for libraries, offices, closets, pantries, and storage rooms

Alpha Concealment Door

Concealment-focused architecture

The Alpha Door is designed for customers whose main priority is reducing the visible clues of a hidden doorway. Its specialized design also brings different planning constraints.

  • Higher-concealment presentation
  • Distinct frame and threshold approach
  • Review Alpha-specific step-over, measurement, and installation requirements

Core technical specifications

Confirm the wall, floor, and swing.

The door is heavy furniture in motion. Accurate measurements, finished-floor conditions, structural anchoring, swing clearance, and pass-through planning are all required.

In-swing wall depth4 inches minimum to 6-1/2 inches maximum.
Out-swing wall depthNo wall-depth restriction stated in the current product specifications.
Jamb and thresholdConstructed from solid pine.
Weight capacityRated for up to 300 pounds; place heavier shelf contents toward the hinge side.
InstallationDoor arrives pre-hung with mounting hardware; installation and final adjustment are not included.

The working door system

Weight travels to the floor—not ordinary side hinges.

The hinge, latch, anchoring, and shelf loading work together to keep the bookcase aligned and operating correctly.

HINGE
Bookcase Door Hinge Pin SystemThe proprietary system transfers the bookcase and shelf load directly to the floor. The threaded top pin allows door removal for additional temporary clearance.
LATCH
Mechanical latch includedThe latch supports the bookcase, maintains alignment, and holds it closed. It is installed after the door has been properly set and adjusted; it is not a security lock.
TOP
TopSeal on out-swing doorsThe adjustable TopSeal helps conceal the required operating gap above an out-swing bookcase while allowing the door to complete its swing.
Pass-through reminder: The bookcase occupies part of the doorway. Calculate the finished clear passage and adjacent-wall clearance for the selected depth and swing before ordering.

Common questions

Standard Bookcase Door FAQ

What rough openings fit the Standard Door?

The current product specifications list rough openings from 26 to 50 inches wide and 62 to 98 inches high. Reduced-height openings from 38 to 60 inches high should use the Small Hidden Bookcase Door range.

How much can the shelves hold?

The door is rated for up to 300 pounds. For best operation, place heavier books and objects toward the hinge side and distribute the remaining load thoughtfully.

What is the in-swing wall-depth limit?

The jamb or wall depth must be at least 4 inches and no more than 6-1/2 inches for an in-swing door. The current product specifications do not state a wall-depth restriction for out-swing doors.

Is the included mechanical latch a lock?

No. It supports alignment and holds the door closed. Optional mechanical key locks and electronic systems are available. Electronic systems require a standard 110V household outlet; wiring and installation are not included.

Does the door arrive assembled?

The unit ships pre-hung and ready for installation with mounting hardware included. Site installation, structural anchoring, adjustment, latch installation, electrical work, and finish work are not included.

How long does production take?

The current product page states typical production of 2–4 weeks, potentially extending to 10–14 weeks during peak periods. Lead times are estimates and may change, so check the current lead-time page before ordering.

Ready to plan the Standard Door?

Measure first. Confirm the swing and clearance. Then configure the storage.
