About This Item
Important — Read Before Ordering
The Small Hidden Bookcase Door, formerly known as the “Attic Bookcase Door,” is our smaller-format hidden bookcase door. It is designed exclusively for interior installation within a finished, climate-controlled space.
This is not an insulated attic door or a building-envelope product.
This product:
- Does not include insulation
- Does not include an insulation rating or R-value
- Is not air-sealed or weather-sealed
- Is not fire-rated
- Is not rated for exterior use
- Is not designed to function as a thermal, air, weather, or fire barrier
- Is not intended to separate conditioned living space from an unfinished, uninsulated, exterior, or non-climate-controlled area
The former “Attic Bookcase Door” name was used to identify this product’s smaller height range. The name did not indicate that the door was insulated or suitable for installation between a finished living area and an unfinished attic.
This product may be used to conceal an opening within a finished, climate-controlled interior space. It should not be relied upon as the insulation, air-sealing, fire-separation, or thermal-barrier component of a wall or doorway assembly.
Before ordering, the purchaser, builder, contractor, architect, or installer is responsible for determining whether this interior door is appropriate for the intended location and whether the complete installation complies with all applicable building, energy, insulation, and fire-separation requirements.
Hide-A-Way Doors does not design, manufacture, provide, or install insulation or building-envelope systems. We also cannot provide instructions or recommendations for modifying the door to create an insulated, air-sealed, weather-sealed, or fire-rated assembly.
Specifications
Fits rough openings ranging from 26" to 50" wide and 38" to 60" high.
For rough-opening heights from 62" to 98", please review our Standard Single Bookcase Door.
Important: This recommendation is based only on the height and dimensions of the opening. The Standard Single Bookcase Door is also an interior, non-insulated, non-weather-sealed, and non-fire-rated product. Selecting the Standard Single Bookcase Door for a taller opening does not make it suitable for an unfinished, uninsulated, exterior, or non-climate-controlled application.
Jamb and Wall Depths
For in-swing doors, the jamb or wall depth must be between 4" minimum and 6-1/2" maximum.
There are no wall-depth restrictions for out-swing doors.
Jambs and thresholds are constructed from solid pine.
Weight Capacity
Rated for up to 300 lbs. For best performance, place heavier items toward the hinge side of the bookcase.
Hinge System
Our proprietary Bookcase Door Hinge Pin System transfers the weight of the bookcase and its contents directly to the floor.
The threaded top hinge pin allows the bookcase door to be removed when additional pass-through clearance is needed for furniture or other bulky items. For detailed clearance and installation information, please review our Technical Information page.
